Exscuse my ignorance here MFK
I'm not computer smart by anymeans-

Basically what I would like to know-
Can I go to a computer store or best buy and buy an anti virus program to install on my computer to take care of virus and other such crap?

If so what should I buy in the next couple hours once town opens up?

Appreciated MFK...

I use avast too.. You can download the 60 day trial from www.downloads.com (cnet's site) other virus programs are available there too. And I'm sure you can pay to keep/register it after the 60 day trial if you want.

I'm using Norton 360, it's alot quicker than it use to be.

anti-virus programms are free ( most of them ) but i like internet security, firewalls, spyware check, anti phishing and all that other stuff.

I love it when i get pop-up saying someone is trying to get onto your network, then i go shouting out of my window haha

why spend good money on free products. avg was in use for over 2 years. great and free

i use bullguard. excellent customer care if you have a problem, reply within 1hr normally, and very light on your pc's resources. norton on the other hand is a hog and slows your pc right down. and its half the price of norton if you buy it from somewhere like amazon.
also some free ones are superantispyware (free version) and anti-malwarebytes (free version doesnt run in the background) for more troublesome trojans and malware. ccleaner (not a spelling mistake) as well is great for fixing windows registry problems and cleaning up you temp files etc.
windows defender is another ok one to try for some troublesome stuff.
a final one for rootkits is called unhackme. some security software detect the trojan they have but struggle with the actual rootkit.

avg ftw. With a good internet gateway that does internal NAT (turning your internet connections IP address into private IP addresses for your computer/s) is all you need for firewall. Just only open up ports you want (if you don't know what this means, then they're already closed and you're good to go). If you want real peace of mind go get a free IP blocking program.
