It's hard to be happy while having an anxiety attack ;)...It is also hard to have anxiety while being "happy"...;)

i have a doc appointment in a week. My whole family has anxiety. my sister deals with it by smoking ( not cigs ). I've had it sence I was 12. :(

I dont wana be doped up all the time :(

I fought it for 10 years with no meds...Wish I would have gone the other route sometimes though...Go see a psychologist...

Here's a ramble

When I was younger (17-19) I used to have terrible panic attacks. They would often feel as if I was having a heart attack. Cold sweats, short breath, tight chest. I was also on 5-8 different meds for anxiety and depression. Also acutane for acne at one point (wich later was proven to caused suicidal tendinitises). On top of that I was an addict. I did every illegal drug under the sun to make me feel normal, but never worked. only a downward spiral.
Anyhoo, to make a long story short, I checked myself into rehab at 19 and stopped taking all medications. I learned to just relax when I felt a panic attack. I havent had one in some time now. A panic attack is just that. An attack of panic..

Just relax and dont think about the stress and the pain. Think about nothing. F the world and evryone around you. they are not important. where you are isnt emportant. The panic attack isnt important. What do you have to worry about? It's just in your head. There are millions of people that would give limbs to be where you are. The only way I can really describe the place I put myself to get over one is this;
Go to the beach on a day with no one around and stand at the edge of the water and just look out. You feel so small and insignificant. The world is huge and your problems are small. That, the beach, is my vacation. I go there alot just to feel small. It might sound stupid. But when your freaking out in the middle of class, you close your eyes to think about it, it's all good.

It's good to see someone and talk about your problems. It does help. believe me.

I'm against meds. But you should try it out a little and make your own opinion. It does work for some people. Side effects suck. from lowered sexual appetite to weight gain. Plus dependency and the zoned out effect.

Yeah I know. You said you went 10 years with no meds and wished you had gone the other rout. I was just assuming you wished you had taken meds.
My bad

I try breathing techniques and they dont work, When I have one, I start to breath rapidly, and i start to shake, cold sweats, cramps, stomach aches. Its the one thing in my life that i hate, Its the fact that no matter how hard I try i cant beat it. I tend to try and go to sleep when I have one, because when I wake up I feel normal.

I'm going on 5 years without meds, just got put on meds about 1 year ago.

I also took acutaine, but stopped taking them about 2 weeks before i was finished. It started maken me sick.

My buddie had the same problem, they put him a a couple other drugs, after a few months a no good, they got him on zoloft, and it took about a month for any real noticeable affect, then after about 3-4 months he was pretty good.

You'll get the attacks down eventually. Believe me. It's more of a teenager problem. When you get older and see the world a little differently, it'll help. Alot of kids get them and don't tell anyone. You're not alone dude. Just relax and dont make it a big deal in your head.

Acutaine messes with your head man! You know it also causes birth defects? Whenever you give blood, that's one of the meds they ask if you're taking. They wont take your blood if your on it or have been on it within 6 months. There was a kid that flew an air plain into a building because of that medication. You should do some research on it. That med and panic attacks coincide dude.
