Any A/V gurus here? PS3 and HDMI/optical audio connections...

its no more complicated than this as i have my PS3 set up with my surround sound.

HDMI ----> TV directly
OPTICAL------> Surround sound optical input in dvd player or subwoofer.

on the surround sound controller you need to select the correct input selection, ie AUX/DVD/SKY/RADIO etc.

The surround controller will either be your subwoofer if the speakers are a stand alone speaker set that you can use without the dvd player or it will be the dvd player. whichever one has the optical input port.

good stuff. went home and checked my connections and yup, looks like ill have to use an optical audio cable to the surround sound. but because i'm already using that port with my HD cable box, i'm gonna by a switcher. theyre only about $6 here:
