Any arachnid keepers?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I had a Trap Door spider and various jumping spiders. Jumping spiders are so neat. Mine were big enough to eat large crickets! :D

Gave the trap door spider away and now am trying to get my local pet store to acquire me another one.

Beardo, you have a nice collection.....when are you going to get the Goliath Bird Eating Spider?

Jumping spiders are off the hook, if they came in larger sizes they would be even sweater. Could you imagine a jumper the size of a bird-eater jumping aroung cathing rodents?
My jumping spider eats everything, I gave him an assassin bettle, I thought he would have a run for his money...I was wrong.

G'day. Sorry I saw this thread a bit late. Only just became a member.

My arachnid collection is looking a bit thin these days, just getting back into the swing of things now. I only have 7 Urodacus planimanus, 1M 6F. Nice odd for that fella don't you think? the hardest part is not the mating but rather getting the yound to shed, humidity can be a difficult thing to get just right!

Peckoltia, that looks intimidating.. How toxic is a scorpions sting btw? Sorry to derail!

This species ins't too bad. Hurts enough to make you know that you don't want to cop another one! ;) I got done by the girl pictured (my fault), similar to a bad bee sting. Hurt for a few hours, nothing too intense. Although an old person or someone quite young may be another story.

Their are a few aussie scorps that can gt you in a bit of trouble.

I see. At least theyre not as venomous as a stingrays sting or a lionfish.
BTW, are you peckoltia from the old p-fish boards? Welcome to MFK btw !

Indeed I am. Cheers for the welcome.

They sure arn't s veomous as rays or stone fish. I've been stung by both. By a SW ray while diving (of course my own fault). Also by a bullrout spine that snapped off during stransport that was left in a net. I have to say that the bullrout sting hurt worse then the ray and the scorpion combined. It was so agonizing I literally considered chopping a finger off, intense to say the least.

back on topic now - :)

I have kept tarantulas and scorpions for many years. Recently, I have whittled down my collection to fewer than 50, and keep only ornamental tarantulas of the genus Poecilotheria. Here's a pic of my favorite: a 7" female P. formosa.

FYI, most tarantulas taste like mild shrimp.
