i have seen red tails that u can pet like put your hand in the water and it comes to your hand. and i am trying to train my red devil to get petted but he is still a bit scared and just checks my hand out does any body here have a fish that they trained to get petted

I have a bunch of cave tetras that I want to call wet pets. They obviously don't follow me around but whenever I put my hand in the water they nibble it and weave around between my fingers and will even swim right into my hand and let me take them out of the tank for a short time. More interesting then my cichlids who only seem to think Me = food

Not to be a downer or anything, but if you want something to pet a dog is a good choice. I know that some fish don't mind or even seem to appreciate being petted (I had an African Lungfish like that) but in the big picture fish aren't creatures to seek being touched except by other fish, and those that do like human touch tend to be the exception to the rule which is why they stand out in the crowd.

My oscar always greets me at the front of my tank (i think he hears me walking down the hall), and this morning when I didn't feed him right away and peered into the tank he splashed me impatiently :) mind you he's only 5"

hahahaha luvnbluegills no i dont do dogs or cats i do fish and i aint lookn for a fish to pet but if i can train my fish to be petted that is one more thing my fish can do that makes him special. u can pet any dog but how many fish can you pet. not to many

My FH is touchable, he lets me hold him or touch his fat head, not that I even do this often but if Im gonna clean the tank and he comes over interested in me I touch him so he doesnt get the idea to bite me, wich he hasnt, hes 11"+.

I put my hand around him for this pic he stayed still without trying to get away, I would not have tried to restrict him

I don't intentionally "pet" my fish, but I do hand-feed my tire track eel, and it always insists on putting its entire "torso" (picture a human torso, then think of the fish equivalent; not sure what that's called) in my hand, rather than just picking the food out of my hand, if that counts.
