Coming in pretty late on this conversation, but this bonsai exhibit was a highlight at the Kyoto Botanical Gardens... If you ever find yourself in Kyoto, DO NOT MISS the botanical gardens... $2 admittance... and it was a whole days worth of exploring.

you would assume correctly, that's crazy, get that maple to root down over the rock like that.
