Bob Sapp needs to fight Mike Tyson.
I would pay to see that even if it would turn into more of a circus sideshow than a fight.:headbang2

I've trained in traditional martial arts since I was a pre-teen, in my early 30s now. In the past decade I've studied boxing, jiu-jitsu, kickboxing and capoeira. I was able to take something useful from each style. To be a complete fighter or martial artist I believe you need to be proficient in striking (hands and feet) and grappling. As evidenced by the UFC and other MMA tournaments being an expert in just one won't cut it. I always hear people saying this style is better than that style or a ninja can kick a samurai's azz or whatever but usually these are guys who have little or no experience or training. No style is dominant. It all boils down to the individual fighter.

Anyway, back to the post topic. Yeah, I boxed at bit. Loved the training but I found it a bit restrictive. Since I'd done other martial arts first I found it difficult to resist just kicking my opponent in the thigh to slow down his footwork. Boxing was very similiar to capoeira to me in terms of the rythmic movements and constant motion.

they are all diferent sports,i feel restricted playing basketball that i cant give the center an upper cut like in boxing.could a pro football team beat a basketball team at basketball?prbably not.im not talking about you but why dont other ppl see it this way?boxing and mma are so enormously diferent i just dont see why they are compared so often,if we are talking about street fighting them then that might be diferent,i know one thing for sure,i havnt seen mma fights entertain me as much as boxing such as gatti vs ward, honestly i would like to see an mma fight night with standup only, that would be cool.

TG? Do you know what the hell happened to Pride?

To my naive eyes it looked like Pride was a richer, more polished and more professional organisation than the UFC. The presentation was slick, the arenas and show was lavish, the fighters were paid pretty well etc.

What the hell happened?

And I repect the fighters that fight for peanuts too. I also feel bad for them, they deserve more. Each UFC card earns MILLIONS, and the fighters combined pay is less than a Mil. It's ****ed up.

I really hope another organisation stops UFCs facist monopoly and poor payment of fighters.

Until MMA fighters get paid more, we're not going to see fighters the level of a Duran, Pacman, Floyd, Leonard etc in the sport.

If the pay starts to match boxing, we could be in for a real treat, seeing fighters cross over into the other sport, and huge matchups.

Sometimes when I'm ready to check out at the store with like 5 items I feel like giving the stupid housewives at self checkout in the grocery store a flying knee.. :(

Really though I think you're right they're way different. You can compete in MMA with very different backgrounds, have any kind of specialty. And boxing you basically have to be a boxer and be good at that.

I'm almost positive Dana White bought Pride :( . Shame because it seemed Pride was where all the fighters with heart were. Some of the big names have transferred over to UFC (Crocop, Silva, etc), but maybe of the up and comers are unemployed. My discontent for Dana gets more and more intense with every UFC event. The whole organization is a joke.

i used to help my grandpa box up his ammunition.

ive tried boxing, i always want to do more than block and punch.

boxing is the harder sport between mma and boxing (reason why)

In mma when a person is in hurt u have many options(for example)
1,clinch
2 ground and pound
3 elbow punch and kick

But!
in boxing when a fighter is hurt the only tool u have is your hands,u dont have the option of picking a fighter up in the air or kicking them in the calf muscle.Making the sport much harder when u only have limited tools.Boxing is also legendary sport, mma came in around 1990 which makes it a newbie and dosent get as near the respect as boxing. Not saying mma is garbage, just stating that it isent on the intensity level as boxing.Id love to see a mma figther last 12 rounds.
