So seen as this is MFK, and i've seen threads talking about people using tank water to water their plants, i thought i would see if there were any carnivorous plant keepers here???

So far i've only got 1 Venus Fly Trap (Dionaea muscipula 'Justina Davis') but planning on getting a different Dionaea muscipula soon... given that i can find the ones i'm looking for...

Anyway, heres 2 pics of my plant...

very cool! i like sundews myself, i had some seeds but never got around to planting them.

See my avatar pic for answer....

Also - Most carnivorous plants need soft water low in nutrients. I would strongly recommend against old fish water. Rainwater, or RO water is your best choice for watering your carnivorous plants.

I have 3 now. Just picked up a new pitcher and venus fly trap. My old fly trap dropped a lot of leaves over the past week. I'm hoping that changing the soil/moss will save it.

im just curious if anything would happen if you stuck your finger in a venus fly trap plant?

Yeah, sorry, maybe i should have been more clear, personally i only use distilled water to water my carnivorous plants... seems to be the best bet for me...

They say you shouldn't really repot unless absolutely necessary, but since i'm still a beginner, this website may give you some better answers... btw, what are you keeping you plant in, coz i've heard even the nutrients leeched out from a clay pot could kill your plant...

Well, the trap would close if you stick your finger in it, although normally it will open again the next day, but if you keep triggering the trap, it will cause that trap to eventually fall off and die...

WOW this hobby looks awesome.

I keep my plants in plastic pots inside of an old 3 gallon MetaFrame tank next to a window. I just picked up another variety of fly traps today, Big Mouths! They have really short leaves and massive, deep red traps. I'm still trying to find sundews. I'm planning on filling the terrarium with a bed of peat and sphagum moss when they go into dormancy, so it will look like a little garden when they start growing again.
