^ Nice, but a question, are you worried about their dormancy period...coz i've heard they have to be kept quite cool during this time... although i guess living in the US you guys probably don't have that problem..

There's an easier solution. Cut off the dead leaves, put the plant in a few plastic bags, and place it in a refrigerator. I don't live far from North Carolina (native range of fly traps), so I could possibly just leave them in the window sill for them to cool off. We'll see when the time comes.

Ah yes, the good old refrigerator trick... i just thought that with you saying your were planting them in the fish tank that you may have had other plans...

It doesn't hurt them if you dig them up for dormancy, I think.

Yeah, i've heard it doesn't do them too much damage, but then again i'm still pretty new to Carnivorous Plants

i got a purple pitcher from costa rica, still small and green (like 4 inches) they get like 9 inches and turn well purple. and i dont do anything special in the winter. it just stays in its mini greenhouse. i cant wait till it is big enough to nag things other then fruit flies. i wanna find a true sundew, now thoose are sweet. i tried over 11 venus fly traps, they all failed. i am gonna setup a ten gallon with live spagnum moss to grow my pitcher in, maybe then i will try the venus fly agian...

VFT's are known to be a right PITA to take care off, they require dormancy in order to survive long term... otherwise i've heard they die within 3 years if they aren't allowed to go dormant during the winter periods...

Also, they do require a hell of a lot of light and are best grown out-doors... personally i grow mine indoors and find them suffering a bit due to lack of light... as in they aren't nearly as red as they should be, although i'm still testing different methods of lighting to see if i can compensate for the lack of natural light...

I have what I think is a purple pitcher too. I just revived it from dormancy a few weeks ago and started growing a new leaf a few days ago. I can't wait for the color change!

High lumens flourescent lights seem to keep fly traps growing well. Terrariums help to keep the humidity up. they're pretty easy if you can recreate the dormancy period (3 months). The flowering consumes a lot of their energy, so if you don't plan on propagating them by seen, cut the flower stem of after 2-3". I'm going to try to cross pollenate the big mouth with a standard and see what I get.

Sundews are cool! I've been trying to get my hands on one for a while now.

ya i found a sundew for about 40$ i would love to see the cross pollenated version of the big mouth and the normal vft

That's expensive!!! I've seen rajah pitchers sell for less. It'll take a while before we can see what the cross will look like, as in 2-3 years. They mature very, very slowly.
