90g aquarium with a couple SA/CA's, a pleco and some red tail botia. I want to run a powerhead to help stir the debris in the substrate. Too much **** is accumulating in certain areas. I know none of these are river fish, and dont need current. But if I create one will it be bad/undesirable for any of them?
Thanks

I use them in all my tanks.

I dont see a problem.

Yes I use them as well. And if used with a sand substrate like pfs there is practically zero substrate cleaning! Plus its like a treadmill for your fish, just make sure there's a spot or two in the tank where the fish can rest, driftwood helps.

Hydor makes some great units that are incredibly energy efficient and mount magnetically! http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=23592 great prices, BTW I'd go with the 1500gph model and mount it low about 4" or so above the substrate on one end of the tank, the opposing end is a good place to have your filter intake and output. This is the most efficient way I've found to create a good current that maximizes mechanical filtration while maintaining linear flow. Like this pic I drew (need a stylus) uploadfromtaptalk1391228400378.jpg The circulator blows the crap toward the filter intake and the filter output blows the other crap back towards the circulator.

I've used this configuration on a 90gal with an fx5 and it wasn't to much flow, now its utilized on my 125gal.

1500gph powerhead for a 90g tank? are you sure that wouldn't be too powerful?

Hydor spreads out the flow. Instead of other circulators that have a less wide spread of current. It moves a lot of water but instead of a pistol its more like a shutgun. So yes I'm sure as I said I had the same in my 90gal.

Plus when you upgrade like I did you have a suitable sized piece of equipment that you can utilize :)

I don't want to have too much water movement and prefer less disturbance of bottom debris so as not to over load my filters. I am already changing filter pads twice a week. I prefer settling of debris in stagnant areas so I can vacuum it out in weekly WC.
