Hey, guys. This is my first post but I've been keeping fish for about five years, mostly bettas or peaceful community types. I have been looking for something interesting to do with my old twenty gallon and I've always wanted an eel but I've always known them to be much too large for the average tank. I found an article mentioning that the lesser spiny eel would be okay in smaller tanks. Is this true? Or am I correct in assuming that eels need a much larger aquarium?
Any Eel Options for a 20g?

Half banded spiny eel will work. Macrognathus circumcinctus is the other name.
It would fit but they spend most of their time buried in the gravel so all you normally see is their pointy nose poking through the gravel. They also ate mad jumpers and seem to somehow fit through a pinhole in the lid so keep things ultra tight or you will find it dried up on the carpet.
Cool fish though, I used to hand feed mine earthworms.

Idk about that, my zig zag eel has a lot of personality even though he is a smaller species of eel. He will come and beg for food, trail other fish, or just poke other fish with his noise which I find amusing.
I will admit, the halfbanded eel looks damn cool. I just haven't seen a particularly active eel I suppose.
Kuhli loaches are hands down the funniest creatures I own. They lie in all sorts of positions while munching blanched cucumber
