Interesting read about if fish do feel pain, I did not read it all but was pretty interesting. Here.

Interesting read. However, I would not accept that as a reputable source.
Who is the author, Stuart Brown, what are his credentials?
Seems like nothing more than an opinion of the author with some excerpts from some sources.

I am a scientist, although I do not deal with fish, but the human body. Mainly Physiology and Pathophysiology in association with the pulmonary system.

I will try and track down some of the scientific articles I read, and will post them when I have time.

^ This issues been discussed MANY times with various research studies cited on both sides. In the end I think its what ever a person believes in....

Can I use this procedure to correct my prized KML FH's drop tail? I have a pitt that is untouched but since fish feel no pain then I would do it.

I have never heard of such a thing as cutting fish fins to fix them. This is new to me. It seems silly to me to do it.

People trim puffer teeth all the time. As long as you don't cut the meaty base of the fin and use a tranquilizer (not dilute clove oil, which risks accidental euthanasia) I don't see what the problem is.

ive cut fishes fins before its not a big deal. they arent complex like dogs. its fairly easy too. just the pectoral fins are tougher so you need a sharp blade. ps i did it while awake

i dont fin cut myself, but i must say that its nothing like cropping a dogs ears. Ears do not grow back, fins do.

A few years ago I found a thread about this. It had step-by-step pictures. I thought it was around here somewhere, but I can't find it. Does anyone else remember it?

By the way, rescue dogs are often given a tatoo on their belly. Our pound told us it was to prove she had been previously processed by them and was spayed. Otherwise they said they would have to check surgically.

I've heard of cutting the anal fin to decrease the mobility of aggressive fish but never to re-grow fins. How much can I cut without causing permanent damage?
I have a green terror with some extremely scrappy fins. It would be nice if they'd grow back.
So, do I take it down to the base or just give it a trim?

That the oldschool way to ID a dog. The more common way now is with a micro chip. The tatoo can be altered and is not the best way to permanitly ID a dog. To check if a female has been spayed all they have to do is Shave the belly of the dog and they can see a scar most of the time. Then they know the dog is Fix. I was a Vet tech and worked at the SPCA. Just wanted to clear that up now back to fish.

If the fish does not bleed when triming the finsl I don't think it will cause much pain. Just stress like clipping dogs nails. If you hit the quick it hurts them if you only get the nail it does not hurt even if they act like it does.
