Any good fish shops in NVA/DC area???

House of Tropical is in Glenn Bernie near Baltimore. Greenbelt is in MD near College Park. Neither one is close to NVA.

There used to be good independent stores in DC/NVA area but they closed left and right. I used to visit one great store in Shady Grove shopping plaza, closed. Another good one behind Outback Steak house in Wheaton, closed. The biggest store, Aquarium Center, in Randaltown, MD, closed or changed ownership to a tiny, pathetic store.

House of Tropical is the only good store left, not cheap, but it carries good choices.

"close" is pretty relative... 1 hour to 1 1/2 hour drive for "well known" fish stores in the area is pretty reasonable...

Ok, now we're seeing eye to eye. I'll see if I can trade my indo tarpon in for store credit, I been trying to rid of for the longest time.
 
Have anyone seen a small real tigrinus catfish for sale in any of the store that we been talking about? I been looking for one.
 
I wasn't going to say anything here, but I have to agree with soon hock. I had the worse experience dealing with Richard the summer before last, when he was at his last location. I'm not even going to bother rehashing the story here in detail unless y'all really want to know, but to summarize... he told me what I wanted to hear on the phone so I can make the trip all the way to his store... and suffice to say, I am NOT "around the corner" from him... and then when I got there, he refused... and I mean literally REFUSED... to help me. The woman there, God bless her, I'm sorry I cannot recall her name... was so nice and did her best, while that mean ass old dude did nothing. All said and done, I ended up regretting the purchase all together in the end. Hard lesson learned. Needless to say, I never returned to his store, and never will. And I truly hate to say that, because it kills me that LFS stores are fading away. I miss the old days, when they were all over, and trading fish with them was a fun part of the hobby. Alas, those days are gone. But at least I have the CCA!

The DMV is not great for shops, but you will find some great breeders. You should try Skip at real hard cichlids. He breeds some of the best fish in the country.

I live in Winchester VA ( at the end of route 7 west) and we only have 1 independent lfs Winchester aquarium. I like them. They have a pretty good stock freshwater and I guess saltwater stock is decent. If your already willing to drive 1 1-2 hours you should check them out. They will order stuff in for you too! truck comes Wednesdays! I'm going tonight to see what they got in.
