Any iridescent shark experts?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The others have already answered the slimecoat problem.
I dont if your buying used tanks, but if you arent i suggest you take alook at used tanks :D!
You'd probaly be better off getting a large tank right away, but your gonna have to upgrade again from 300g, or sell (Selling these fish is very hard, due to the low amount of people who can house the large ones)

Very nice pictures, even tho their sideways :D!

Ya not everyone can house them as adult's I personally think they are cool looking I can house a full grown adult I have a 540 gal fish tank but not a lot of people have nor can have something that big

3'+ fish in a 540g? Its what, 4'wide?
Imo that dosnt house an adult.

Welcome to MFK, Catfish2007. Please do not read it as a cold welcome, we are all here to learn but I agree with Karl. I currently have a 2.5+ footer in a 1000 gal and, IMHO, it is too tight. In a significant part because it never stops swimming and loves to swim.

Just wanted to update that I was able to find a used 150 for the sharks. I get to set it up on Sunday. The plan is to keep looking for a used 300. I expect this to take quite a while to find but they will be much happier!

They will be happy with the upgrade :D But wouldnt it be better to start lookking, or building something that can house them for life, if thats your plan?

The plan is to upgrade again to the 300. Hoping to find one used. I know they are $1600 at my LFS for just the tank. It's all about little steps as their needed. You wouldn't put a newborn in a queen size bed just the same as monster fish not needing a super monster tank right away. When they need it they will get it.

Yeh, ok. Be ready for a super tank, or pond, they will get huge :D!

Take a look at this thread so that you can get an idea of what you are getting yourself into: http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/f...ius-and-2-x-44-quot-niger-catfish-need-a-home

The guy owns the largest private aquarium in the UK (or so they say) and he's having to sell off all his fish because of the cost of running such a huge system. His tank is 4,800 gallons.

The amount of electricity required to run these huge tanks is astronomical. The huge electric bills have forced him to shut down the tanks and he's giving away his two 31" pangasius (Irredescents), among other fish.

An appropriately sized upgrade is going to cost north of $10k. In additional to the initial cost of the setup, it's going to cost several thousand dollars every year to run the tank.

A 300G is a sump for the size tank these fish will eventually need.

If i remember correctly that tank was very tall, and wich is wouldnt be nessecery, but yeh still huge.
Without knowing much about these i'd say (They should be very active, so maybe more) 4 times the length and 2 times the width of the fish, would be a minimum for this fish.
I'm no expert on this, so its probaly wrong. Maybe Thebiggerthebetter can estimate a better minimum size for them. I dont know about the hight of a tank, or pond for these guys :D
