I currently have two 2" black rohms. Is there issues feeding them live feeders? I've had my rb's on frozen shrimp before but going on work trips became a problem and would need people to fish sit for me. It just seems live feeders would help out in that area. I'm completely open to input. Thanks

A lot people don't like to feed live foods, because of the risk of introducing disease to the tank. When you travel you could always cut up fish filets in to small pieces and freeze individual packets, the packets would contain a couple pieces of fish. The fish sitter would just thaw the packets and drop the food. How long are your trips? You would probably just need a packet or two a week for now. Then once the rhoms are 5-6" you could get away with being gone for a week with out feeding

I have rb and serrasalmus rhom 1/2".

Rbp can go a couple weeks w/o food no prob and same with rhoms but if ur rhoms are 2" they need a good hearty diet, so id suggest a fish sitter as above. At the least do a lg wc before you leave and feed generously, u can use an auto feeder with pellets too and only feed a small amount per day. Pics?!

Thanks for the current input it is much appreciated, I'll snap a picture of the tank when I get home. I can see the concern with introducing disease by using live feeders. Right now the 2" have been eating rosie reds, small goldfish, and ghost shrimp. Would home bred convicts be acceptable? I have done that in the past. Also I'll try some frozen fish, ect... And see how they do. Any thoughts on squid if I go the frozen route?

NO NO ON GOLDFISH! BAD IDEA AND GROWTH HORMONES WILL EFFECT UR FISH!

it is so much easier to feed pellets, and fish fillets/shrimp! Just fast the fish for a week throw in a talapia fillet and there ya go! Better to train while young and youll see you fish become more healthy and colors will pop!

They have growth hormones because their massed produced fish! When ur fish eats them in abundance ur fish will inhibit those hormones and it will do the opposite to ur fish! Nasty low grade staple!

If you wanna feed feeders BREED UR OWN! Or buy frozen fish fillets or frozen whole silverslides! A hungry fish will accept almost anything, either immediatly or with time!
