Any large Frontosa tanks out there?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
He did just post a new list on his website about a month ago but hasn't been on his forums for some time.

There may not be many big Front tanks in MEK, but no lack of big Front tanks and specialists in this Front forum:

I visited one Front specialist in my area to purchase my Fronts. He has 5 to 6 big tank set ups for each variant. I can't distinguish nor understand why he keeps so many Front variants. It's not like discus, angel or guppy specialists who keep variants that are widely different in color and pattern. The variants in Front are all blue barred fish with subtle differences in body shape, color intensity, and face mask.

I like variety and have no interest in keeping a Front only colonies which will bore me soon. I purchased a blue Zaire from him and throw in with my community cichlid tank as my future center piece. If the OP doesn't care about the variant, he doesn't know Front. It's worth while to invest in the bluest Front than to buy the black and white common Front in LFS.

And really from what I remember, Burundi and Kigoma are the only frontosas. The rest are all gibberosa

I'm guilty of this as well. I currently house 4 different wc zaire variants and recently sold my wc kigoma group to a good friend.
I know there's not a huge difference in the different variants of frontosa but some of those subtle differences can be appealing to different people. Personally, I like the dark blues and zorro mask of the zaire types where-as some of my friends like the lighter blues and the almost metallic sheen of some of the Tanzanian and Zambian types. Others like the huge humps that are common to the Burundi types, or the extra stripe on the kigomas.
The point is...different strokes for different folks. I house all these large, boring frontosa but I also keep a large variety of other wc tanginykan fish as well. (I also like variety)

Imo though...there's nothing more relaxing after a hard days work then coming home and sitting down in front of a large tank of slow, lumbering frontosa...that's MY pleasure!

I have spent hours reading on cyphos.com after joining, but it won't let me post yet:( The site seems fairly inactive at present, but once had an amazing participation rate. I have narrowed my likes down to almost all of the variants except Burundi. Tough decision!! My 48x20x30" dual tower wet dry filter is being built, just need to see how many gallons of bio balls I'll need, thinking 30. After I disassemble and clean the 375, I'll start the build. Definitely the fun part starting a new tank.

What type are you looking for? I have many F1 kitumba, moba, lupota, kigoma, and chumbu fry available at 1 1/2"-2" and I ship same day air cargo. I have quite a few so I'll cut you a great deal if you're interested.

Here is my 7x2x2' oceanic 210 with my wc lupota group, you don't need much for frontosa. All of my tanks look rather similar and all groups spawn regularly.

What kind of prices? You can pm me if you want. Deff interested
