ANY LARGE GROWING AFRICANS?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The Exochromis are cool, when they are available here they are small and a golden yellow color.

Boulengerochromis and Frontosas are the biggest piscivorous African Cichlids. Emperors can reach 3' long and Frontosas in the 16"+ range... maybe larger if adequate space is provided.

My 400 gal houses a pair of wild caught emperors and a colony (22, 6m/16f) of wild caugth Kitumbas. The emperors are 20"+ and the largest Kitumba male is probably 14". I haven't measured them in a long time. They will be some of the largest blue Zaires in the hobby though, as I intend to keep them for the rest of their life.

Those emperors are AWESOME!!!!! And to have them with a colony of fronts is KICK ASS!!! Is it possible to breed those in captivity? Don't they starve to death trying to defend their young? Not sure how that would work or if its even possible. I am extremely interested

They've been bred in Europe years ago in aquarium and to my knowledge Spencer Jack just had a big batch as well, but he's using ponds for them.

I won't let them die when they spawn and I am sure they will once I move them into a larger aquarium (12'er maybe, 1000gal +). I just want them to max out and enjoy their life, the way they are with the fronts. They're two of the species I always wanted to keep.

Every full moon the female "dresses" up and beats the hell out of the male. All she needs is a little conditioning and they'd most likely spawn.

Those Emperors are stunning, almost makes me ashamed to have mine in a 180 with my Champs.I have raised mine from a fingerling on flakes and pellets, what do you feed your pair?

Wow! Nice. I wasn't sure if they would eat again, Can they have more than one brood? or Just wondering because if, in nature, they have 1 brood and die, would evolution allow them to breed multiple times? Also, do you have to split the fry up or will they be fine with each other? And don't they have like 8000 fry? Would you sell them right away, or do you have that much room to house 8000? thank you for answering my questions i'm really fascinated by these fish.

Thanks, I am glad you like them. I feed them NLS pellets, Cichlid-Formula, Thera-A (1mm, 3mm and I think 4.5?).
