400gal ..what's that 1500l?!?
8'L x 3'W x 27"H

Here's a video from when I had some Tropheus in that tank

Thanks, I am glad you like them. I feed them NLS pellets, Cichlid-Formula, Thera-A (1mm, 3mm and I think 4.5?).

how would the Tropheus fare with a tank full of mbuna and a couple of haps

A big NO. Tropheus should be mixed only with Petrochromis/Eretmodus (goby species)/shell dwellers.

Tropheus are colony fish, not "community". To get the best out of them you need to build the setup around them. Just my 0.02 cents, a lot of people don't like it though.

Boulengerochromis and Frontosas are the biggest piscivorous African Cichlids. Emperors can reach 3' long and Frontosas in the 16"+ range... maybe larger if adequate space is provided.

My 400 gal houses a pair of wild caught emperors and a colony (22, 6m/16f) of wild caugth Kitumbas. The emperors are 20"+ and the largest Kitumba male is probably 14". I haven't measured them in a long time. They will be some of the largest blue Zaires in the hobby though, as I intend to keep them for the rest of their life.

man those are cool fishes.

are tilapias all african? just curious coz i've seen some monsters in ponds, but the biggest one i've seen was almost 2' caught from almost a salt water (it was in the river mouth over in indonesia). these guys can live anywhere i think:screwy:

I did mention "piscivorous", right? Of course there are the Tilapia species, but, besides eating them every now and then, I am not interested in keeping any.

Thats a shame because an Oreochromis/Sarotheradon Tanganyikae would be a nice addition to your tank with its pale blue color and red tail fin.

Might be, to a larger setup. I don't want to add anything to the setup as it is. The fronts and the emperors still have some growing up to do and I do want them to enjoy the space.

I hear ya,when I had my Oreochromis it was the boss of the tank and the Emperor would not grow past eight inches untill the Oreo died then the Emperor began to grow to the size that it is now.

Do you have one?!? Post some pictures. The Boulengerochromis pair I have are 20".
