So, so sad. I have seen some nasty stunting before, but these guys do look like hybrids not stunted. Odd how their mouths do look like bp's. From the way they were swimming I would say they have underformed swim bladders. And I agree they should of been culled.

I agree, they do look like they have many BP traits. I hope this isn't a new hybrid that is hitting the market.

Oscars do not spawn outside their genus. They're not hybrids, they're just severely deformed fry that were not culled. I see them in batches of severum fry all the time with the weird "blood parrot" mouth and crooked/short spine.

What do you mean by that, Do you mean naturally? That wouldn't stop the mad scientist types creating them unnaturally if they felt that way inclined though.

They can spawn with other fish outside their genus in the wild or in tanks BUT they will never have viable spawns meaning no fry. Same has yet to be proven false for all South American cichlids (except Festae) . And as much as people like to think it, Parrots are not the result of scientists in laboratories. Also the deformed mouth has been shown to occur after several generations of straight inbreeding.

As i have mentioned many times before 'Star4' on Fishforums has bred Convict x Rotkeil Severum....so it is possible to breed CA x SA.

If it was that easy for us to create them unnaturally we'd do it. Well actually it is (sort of) but it's more of we wouldn't really bother. :P Not many of us are THAT interested in keeping fish for the sake of keeping them anyways.
