Well its Feb now... sooner or later ima start pullin out the gear ^^

You're missing opportunities. The boats are leaving Sheepshead Bay daily. Mackerel and Blackfish are waiting to be caught.

I usually fish in the lakes here in Queens, I only catch Bluegills and Largemouth Bass.

Then you have the idiots who come with a big fishing rod and a big net to fish for Carp!

I never understood why people fish for Carp! Its so stupid, the fish puts up like a 3 second fight and then thats it.

Anyway I dont associate myself with "Carp Fishermen" Its so lame.

I haven't ventured out into Long Island to go fishing Freshwater yet.

If anyone goes fishing give me a PM and we set something up. I am eager to start fishing but I know its a out of season for Bass right now out in L.I.

I think its starts up in May or June or something around there. Otherwise the DEC will start bothering everyone.

I grew up on LI too theres ponds, lakes and fishing everywhere.Take a hour or two ride upstate and youll never run out of lakes to fish.

Carp are fun on a light rod. Play around with the drag, but be sure to lip him when you try to unhook or the tip of the rod snaps off.

Ok, you think fishing for Carp is boring try catching a 15~20 pounder on 4 pound test. Carp are good fighters and the best Carpping is done in the late evenings. So I just gotta ask this then, you prefer to catch, Blue Gills?, over Carp? Because I've fished Queens, and unless you consider Long Island as part of Queens, I know of few places in Queens to catch other fish like Bass! I lived in Queens for 2yrs and fished every lake, pond, puddle, stream and trickle in Queens, so where are you fishing?

FYI Bass season in Nassu County opens on the third saturday in June and the first saturday in June in upstate NY. Plus Nassu County now has a NO KILL Policy on BASS throughout the county, so everything is catch and release.

I could have sworn I mentioned that Bass fishing started around June, but maybe I didnt make that clear.

As for your inquiry in "Bass Fishing" , I will label them according to my experiences in catching in these bodies of water and not the DEC's list.

I caught Largemouth Bass in the following areas:

-Kissena Lake ( A lot of Largemouth Bass, Bluegills, .......A LOT OF CARP....and some Goldfish.

-Oakland Lake (Near Queensborough Community College right off of Northern Blvd. Also an abundance of Bluegills & Pumkin Seeds, Largemouth Bass, few Carp thank god, and Yellow Perch. I have heard rumors of Catfish but have not caught any personally, probably cause I suck at fishing but anyway.

- Bowne Lake ( Near Northern somewhere)
(Largemouth Bass, Sunfish as usual, Few Carp thank god,

I have not ventured out into Nassau yet, but I hear its fun fishing out there.

To answer your question from before, No I dont consider Bluegill fishing better than Carp fishing.

Largemouth Bass is my sport and until I experience something worse like Musky or Northern Pike I wont be satisfied.

Again if anyone wants to go fishing for Natives(Not Carp) hit me up!

Spain, once you get hooked into a bluefish, having a largemouth bass on a line feels like live lining bait for blues and stripers.

Balooney utter bullsh*t i have caught blue fish while in florida and they are nothing, a large lmb is pound for pound a better fight, but under 3.5 pounds your right.

Yeah thats the ticket, fishing the city area Stripe Bass. I got a monster last season on the beach on Far Rockaway.

For limited Largemouth Bass, Trout, Chain Pickeral, Perch and Black Crappie, catches per day. Either head too Long Island or Upstate to Seven Lakes Drive or beyond. Green Wood Lake in Jersey, has seen some nice size Bass. It's a very weedy lake most of the time. (through it's in NJ you can Fish Greenwood lake with a NYS Fishing License, last I heard).

But for me I prefer to go Bass fishing where I catch Bass in good numbers. Last trip between me and my fishing buddy we landed 73 Bass & 3 monster Bluegills. For me Freshwater Bass Fishing in and around NY is too slow.

So true.

In new york there is a town named New Rochelle it's waters are on the long island sound its like 15 min away from orchard beach and city island. There is this charter boat named the kondiak that leaves from glen island. It charges like 40 bucks per person for the whole day. It goes all the way out into the atlantic ocean maybe 1-2 miles off of Manhatten island and there is awsome blue fish fishing there. My rod almost broke from a blue fish when the adrenalyn starts puming your foreget about your rod and all you think about it getting that beauty on the boat. XD I remember my first time when i went on i was new to those weird reels and my line kept getting tangled. But yea blue fish are awsome.
