Hey all. I love fishing but I just don't see as much fish in New York as in other states.

I see people catching gars, plecos, and all these cool fish but me, on the other hand... im on an island... haha staten island to be exact and there arent that many good fishing spots here because everything is man made and the only fish i believe to be around here are those round fish.. sun fish? i think they are called.

anyone have any places near southern New York? (NYC)
or new jersey?

there's no places in NY to get those sorts of tropical fishes that were realesed into a place like florida- there climate is completly different and NY's waters get mighty cold. you can go up to places like lake Onita or other great lakes for Bass (technically a sunfish) or pike there's plenty or great places in Newyork of good fishing, i have a buddy who's a pro bass fisherman and he says his favorite place to go for bass is NY.

Staten Island? Open those eyes, look towards the shore and fish that. There are several piers on Staten Island- try the Ocean Breeze Pier on Father Cappodano Blvd. You can fish Gateway off Hylan Blvd. There are plenty of pike and muskies in the upper lakes of Clove Lakes Park. Want Sturgeon? Hudson River. Have a look around, you'd be surprised how much you can find on Staten Island. In terms of party boats, the Atlantis Princess goes out from the Marina near Cleveland Ave off of Hylan Blvd. Try some of the boats going out of Sheepshead Bay.

Ive fished the saltwater but I want to see if I can catch any freshwater as well.

THERE ARE PIKES AND MUSKIES IN CLOVE LAKES PARK?!
wow.. where have I been fishin..

Druu, how come you know so much about this area? haha
your location is totally different!

I've grown up and lived on Staten Island my entire life. I just go to college at Notre Dame. I'm only able to get home on vacations, but I do my share of fishing when I'm there.

Hey Bro you got to remember that you are living right next to the second greatest place to fish in the world after FL. Though there are no tropical FW fish here like in FL there are still some of then nicest and biggest natives found here. And the sw is just insane. If you wish to do trout fishing two of the top five fly fishing places in the world are located on Long island. If you will like some info on then just ask.
