This male is so awesome, I'm hoping I get something like this from my carpintis X syn pair, perhaps without the red base, and normal length, but the fins & the profile! From what I've seen of vieja/texas crosses, I should get something close.

Hey Ed! I was hoping you would reply to this thread (last november!) and glad to see you are still breeding. You are right about the outcome but I think most of the shortbodies had a similar shape. I was hoping to see some in-between expressions of the trait but didnt. Then again if I really wanted to see that I would have to grow a much larger number out to over 2". I was curious about using the kkp.

Heres my favorite sb carpintis I have that you bred. He is beautiful and very aggresive.

God I still miss this strain, hoping to make a normal length version with nicer finnage, shape, and overall balance...not sure if I want them to be short this time around, we'll see.

I bred a batch a few years ago, and lost them all (you can see the one best male i bred is my profile pic, later lost him to disease after trying to breed him with a BP), later losing the parents as well. Have always been my fave fish (SB TEX) recently came across a batch at LFS and took first pick of the batch of over 100, selected 6 of the shortest/roundest babies. THey are currently growing out, only two show fairly impressive pearling, also growing out two escondidos. One is with the sb fry and small, I thought was a female but I am thinking he is a male now...he is also tearing up the fins of the SB's (hes too fast for them), and then I have a larger (4.5 inch) male escondido sibling to the other who is alone, hard to get a pic of, but he is very beautiful, huge blotch pearling. Will get better pics later, still growing them all out, with the hopes of crossing the escondidos with the SB's to improve on them.

bp.jpg Picked up this super red BP today as well, she was dropping her tube/digging so I am almost certain its a female but not always 100% with BP's...she will now join my larger escondido and see what happens

Looks like it will produce some very interesting first generation fish. Is the larger escondido you are talking about a short body?
