my goliath bird eater took a few hours before it would eat the crickets the other day,it never does that,i hate when they break habits and pull the fake non feeding crap, just like snakes.:irked::)

yeah my salmon birdeater was not eating for a while and hiding all the time, I was getting annoyed until yesterday I found a nice little molt and a good deal bigger birdeater. Now he's back in the open and hopefully will eat tomorrow. The one spider I always know will eat is my usambara baboon. What a little killer.

the usambara is one of my favs, man can they spin a web!they are truly agro though im sure you agree lol.what substrate is your usumbara on,my old one hated vermiculite.actualy all my ts did.peat is all i use now no problems.

Yeah my salmon hated verm too. Won't use it again, waste of time.

agreed, vermiculite is awful stuff for spiders. Right now I'm using a coconut fiber bedding that caribsea just put out called coco soft. I got a bunch of free bags of it through work. It says its great for inverts and naturally resists mold, but the stuff is molding horribly. I need to change it out first chance I get. I think I'll go with an invert bedding amazon reptile makes. I have used it in terrariums in the past and liked it a lot. Oh, and the usumbara is the craziest little architect, he builds spiral webs all the way up his cage and coats the outsides with substrate. I cant wait to put him (or her) into a nice big enclosure.

Here are some Spider room pics.

At one point I owned 47 Tarantula and 3 scorpion, that was when I only had One aquarium. As far as animals go, Tarantula are my 2nd place.

These aren't mine, just like the pics.

yeah never had spiders do well on verm, in the UK we dont really have anything else besides sand, soil and bark to use...

Just got my first spider it's a cobalt blue T haplopelma lividiam it's still a spyderling about as big as a nickel but in a year i hope to have a big blue scary monster hahaha good tip on the vermiculite i was about to go get a bag for him i will get some peat instead i plan on getting a few more spyders in the future those metallica's look sweeeet i gotta have 1.

yeah keep it on some sort of soil those cobalts love to dig

Cool spider room pics, I can totally see myself getting to that point someday. I like the more naturalistic setups in the first and second pics, they are really impressive. And yes, peat or soil because cobalts are quite the burrowers, and get very "irritable" if they're not allowed to build a burrow. Not that they are docile spiders to begin with...
