I am going to be getting my first, Argentine black and white OR red tegu this summer... I also will be building an 8x5 or so enclosure for when he is bigger... But anyways, is there anything specific I should know about them (I have researched them extensively, I KNOW they get big...) and what is better, argentine or red?

In captivity reds do best, dont get as large and arent as aggressive. Ive heard stories of blacks killing housecats and other small pets but never a red. Itll be better for yourself to handle too, they have super strong bites and sharp teeth

Just so you know i dont own one, my buddy has had a red for a long time though and he loves the thing. Very easy to handle and we actually play fecth w/ it! Id reccomend a red over black to anyone but a serious collector who is over the whole i want to play w/ my lizard thing

Both species act more or less the same. I'm guessing the larger amounts of reports you have seen are due to the fact that there are many more b&w in the hobby. Neither is better than the other, personally I like Colombians better. Get what you like and what you can care for. If you do your research you can answer these questions yourself. In any case I would go with a bigger enclosure

^ I'm going from my cousins experience, he first tried a black which was too nasty and gave his cats tail a mean bite so he sold it. Got a red and the thing plays w/ the cats. Seems like people who've owned both say similar things

I have never heard of an aggressive argentine... Are you thinking of a columbian tegu? They look pretty much exactly like a argentine but they are much more aggressive!

All I know it was a black, I'll shoot him a text to see if it was Columbian or aregtinea

I have heard of really aggressive columbian tegus but argentines seen to be like a puppy!

Columbians are more flighty, but can be tamed down. There are some threads on here. If you do get one of the large species, please remember that they are not all puppy dog tame and a bite from one can be very nasty. Also remember that they cost a lot to feed and need pretty specific diets. If you do not have a good steady amount of income, it is not the pet for you.
