Anybody have a freshwater saw fish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
No. The stipulation of the sale was no arrival guarantee. The loss wasn't the seller's fault. The airline cut the power cord to the shipping bin pump/filter/aerator. The sawfish was $10K. The rest was for the insulated transport bin/system, shipping, permits, and customs/inport fees.

Did u at least sue them?

I found a few old pics.

This is one of two displays that have sawfish at the Houston Downtown Aquarium. Ironically, the girl in the middle is now my wife. :)

Sue who? No airlines guarantee live shipments. If you flew your $5 million dollar race horse, you'd have to carry your own insurance. The cut line comes down to my word against theirs. And, trying to sue a supplier in another continent is an expensive exercise in futility.

Most sawfish do get rather large.

If you guys want to see sawfish in the US, there are several public aquariums that have them on display. Off the top of my head: Dallas World Aquarium, Houston Downtown Aquarium, Sea World Orlando, Sea Life MN (the old Underwater Adventures Aquarium in the Mall of America), Shedd Aquarium, Georgia Aquarium, Long Beach (Aquarium of the Pacific), National Aquarium in Balt had them (Not sure if they still do), Adventure Aquarium (NJ), Ripley's Aquariums (TN and SC)... I'm sure there are more.

If you are really lucky, we still have a small wild population off the US Gulf coast and down in the Keys. I heard one was seen in the Bahamas last Summer as well.

seaworld in san diego has saw fish too

at least they did last time I was there. that was when I was in the fifth grade though,.......

The Baltimore has a massive one, not FW but its like 10 feet, bigger then the ones ive seen in any other aquarium

All of the "FW" sawfish in the US are kept in marine systems. The P. microdon species venture into FW, but are also commonly found in SW. They are also commonly known as the "Largetooth Sawfish" since some feel the term FW is misleading.
Kind of like the jack rabbit isn't technically a rabbit, it's a hare.

Well Oddball, if you dont mind me asking. Did you recover from the loss of the 16k. I mean thats a lot to drop on a single fish. Were you able to recover some of that money or you just couldnt do anything about it. Whats done is done.
And thanks for the pics Zoodiver! They are super cool fish. And correct me if im wrong but the saw fish can be both freshwater and saltwater correct? Kind of like the Bull shark.
