I saw a roughly 2ft. pleco swimming in our neighborhood pond, which is heavily chemicaled retention pond. I live in FL as well, and also saw a decent sized oscar in a pond by an exercise trail. It is really common, that is actually a good idea to catch these fish once I have a big enough tank. Fun project imo.

That's why so many fish are illegal to keep in Florida.

It could have been any oscar. I have heard they are quite common in FL. now-a-day.Plecos too.
No, because I'm in central florida, and there are very few cichlids this far north, and it was in a tiny neighborhood retention pond, so it was mine.

Yeah dude get it out of dem waters!
Honestly what I do isn't going to make a difference, you don't understand... there are cichlids up the wazoo in south florida, there is no way to effectively catch and keep every non-native fish in florida, plus cichlids aren't the ones hurting the enviroment, it's the carp. And plus I want to catch him and put him in a tank by himself.

Sooo you're the only person in that neighborhood with an albino oscar? highly doubt that. It could have been anyone's oscar from the neighborhood. You aren't the only stupid one who releases aquarium fish into the wild.

ok broski, lets not start this, there is a difference between ignorance and stupidity, I was ignorant in terms of releasing a non-native fish, but stupid? No... I didn't realize that what I was doing could hurt the enviroment... Stupid would be getting online to flame somebody for making a mistake in his past. And plus, my neighborhood has 16 houses, and one self sufficient retention pond, I'm the only one who fishes there, heck I'm there all the time. To all you who plan on flaming me, this was a story that I meant for people to enjoy about a coincidental occurence that I experienced today, not to get flamed over a internet connection... soo either say something nice or don't say anything at all.

Stop defending yourself. No one is flaming you, but where were your parents? I know that when I was 8 my parents didn't just let me go putting pets into ponds. The point is, you did it. Period. Who cares if you were 8 or 39. You still did it. The way you wrote this you seem kind of proud to see this fish after you abandoned it in the beginning. If it's in a retention pond, just let him be. We don't want you putting him in a river next time where he may do some damage just because you can't keep him anymore.

The story really isn't that great. Sorry.

"omg! I put a goldfish is this lake, and one just came up.. it's my goldfish, I just know it!"

Seriously kid...

Not flaming would of consisted of "ya you shouldn't have done that." not what you said. Why do people insist on escalating threads into arguements?
