I used to dead lift but I've stopped since my back is so bad now. Anybody got any ideas on how to fix it? I'm getting surgery in a few days and I'll be taking 3 months off from the gym. Maybe it will recover then? And also do you guys think I will lose all my muscle from 3 months of inactivity? I'm thinking I will which is really going to stink. Watching over a year of hard work waste away will be like torture.

i dont think you will lose anything unless the surgery is removing muscle you may lose some of the strength. you should be alright depending on age and weight

You'll lose a little but you'll gain it right back cuz of muscle memory. I was out for a couple months when I had a hernia but I gained it right back. It sucked at first cuz I was a lot weaker but after that first week, the amount of weight was constantly jumping up and in just a few weeks I was right where I used to be and gettin stronger.

I'm 17, 137 pounds and 5'9". I'm naturally pretty skinny so putting on muscle wasn't as easy for me as it is for some people. I'm going to be getting the Nuss procedure and it involves two incisions on each side of the rib cage like an inch long which will probably end up cutting my serratus and maybe even my lats slightly.

Ok that's great. I was afraid I would have to start completely over. I'm just hoping my lats can get back to normal if they get cut through. My Dad had his appendix removed and he said once a muscle has been cut through it will never be the same. He said he had pain in his abs and he couldn't do sit ups for like 8 years.
