The tissue can be reversed, the hard gill cover needs to be cut....

This represents a large differance between a heavilly scaled Aro and a scaless catfish...
Prevention is always the best policy.

I don't understand what you are saying? The tissue inside the harder gill, of an aro can curl without the harder scale cover curling. The tissue curl can be reversed with many methods. If it has gone as far as curling the harder cover, it would need to be cut....Are we agreeing cause I am a little confused..sorry...And yes, prevention is the best policy.

I was refuring to my catfish recovering. They rarely EVERY require surgery and most of them get better eventually with the right conditions. I imagine a mild case in an aro would be similar but an advanced case is a far more serious condition in some fish than it is in others.

Oh...OK..lol Can all fish get gill curl?

I know of Koi that have come down with it...large cats and aros and at least one GG. Thats hardly all fish of course but then I don't remember saying that ALL fish got it...

I was just wondering and asking you, thats all. Not putting words in your mouth :) You know more than I do and picking your brain is worth it IMPO I was going to then ask if any fish in a small tank, that has to swim back to turn around could get it. It looks so painful and just unsightly....

I know I was mostly just thinking out loud....

That IS a good question...are some fish TOTALLY immune to gill curl and if so...why?

Is this a question of structure...genetics...species?

I know it's more common in aquarium fish than pond fish and almost unknown in the wild. I would think that we could find a definate cause and correct it given enough time...

in fact....I know of stupider things that are bieng funded by our government at the moment...perhaps I should draft a grant request....

Needed for the study of gill curl...a potentially deadly condition that may yet spread to the comercial fishing sector...funding for a 15 year study.

25 to 30 million should do for a start....

My friend has 12 inch jardini arowana which he is selling for $100 and it has gill curl do u guys know how to cure it without a operation? i heard you have to clean the filter do a water change every week and add a tablespoon of salt per gallon any other ways?

To be honest and nothing against you or your friend but that arow has horrible gill curl. I don't know what the cause of it. Seems like it's in a small tank so it might be the cause or might not. But IMO as bad as it is I'd almost feel bad charging people for the fish in the condition it's in. Just my .02 though.

I certianly wouldn't pay money for a fish with an advanced condition...rescue one possibly...but buy it?...nope...sorry.
