Well for us old guys who have been listening to rap since the early 80"s kanye west isin't all that. Gangster Rapers such as N.W.A sang about there life on the streets, Krs 1 as well as a tribe called quest sang from experiences. Kanye just seem to me to want to be another P diddy and i'm sorry that part of the market is all tied up by him. After Pac was shoot the first 9 times his music changed to things that were improtant in his life. Rappers should sing about stuff they know not just for the next big hit....but i'm old and still remember Run-Dmc and Arosmith, and humpty....

:ROFL:You've almost got me pegged, except for the radio part. Most truely great bands don't get radio time, just the mainstream money makers.
 
I used to like rap, but I grew out of it. Occasionally I'll put some old stuff in, but I can't stand any of the new rap that I've heard.
 
I like Kanye along with alot of other Rapers. I like rape more then people screaming at you maing pig noises and simply making life wrong.

Rap is more subtle and they aint talkn' fast you just listn' slow!

what i dont like is metal. nothing is more disturbing than seeing some guy with long curly hair and eye liner screaming "KIILLLL!!!!!!! KILL!!!! KILL!!!!!!" into a microphone. thats scary. how to do fans scream along at concerts?

Lol. A lot of the good older rappers didn't have experience with living in the "ghetto" either. Many at least exaggerated to make the songs more interesting. It's not like they don't admit it.

I don't honestly care as long as the music is pleasant to listen to. I don't require that the songs I like be 100% true to reality. Songwriters have been making up stories for as long as songs have existed.

There's a lot of current non-commercial stuff that's pretty good. If you listen to people off sites like Garageband.com there's quite a bit of good rap. A lot of it makes an actual social or political point too rather than just talking about how much money they have or how many women they screw.
 
You have to remember that kanye is a beat man. He made the Blueprint, and alot of Nas' stuff. All that kweli and common stuff is his too. He's been behind the scenes so much that he had you take his turn.
