Anyone else enjoy maintenance day?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I enjoy doing it. Same day every week but I have to wait for my 4 yr old boy to doze off no matter what time it is. I appreciate him helping but he acts like he knows more than me :). And the part I like the best? Sitting back with a drink and staring at it when the water clears up.

haha Wednesday is my tank cleaning day too.

55 gallon i do a 60% change that tank 30 mins

but i clean my 29 everyday about 15%

I enjoy it as well! Seeing clean and clear water is always refreshing (no pun intended LOL).

i use an aquaclear hose to drain/fill it.

At least you have that. We stick our siphon through the hose to drain which works fine but when we refill we use 5 gallon buckets. Fill them from the bath faucet, condition water and put into the tank. It is definitely time consuming but if you get 2 buckets into the rotation it goes quickly.

Today I get to do the 240, 55, and 37 all by myself. Just found out the usual helper isn't going to be around much today ha. 240 i will change around 100-120 gallons, about 15g in the 37 and 20-25g from the 55. Thats around 30 buckets filled one by one and lifted shoulder to head height. Its a decent workout

By far the best part

let's continue to share how we perform water changes. Could be some good info.

I think me and my husband have bad luck with ours, we usually clean it out every monday. We have our 105 gal in our bedroom so its a bit tricky to get water in the tank. Usually something comes apart and we get water everyywhereeee LOL. This week we coudlnt get our gravel vacum to work properly and we got water all over the wooden floor and such, its funny just a bit irritating sometimes hahah

i change the water with the bucket for my 10 gallon, 1 bucket will do.

i don't see why you don't just use the hose to put the water back into the tank? just put the conditioner in the tank before you fill it.

I was worried to do this due to the water temp coming straight from the hose. I do live in San Diego county so it's not like the water coming out too cold, I just don't want the temp to drop too much. I have been thinking about picking up a cheap pond pump or powerhead and a few 55 gallon barrels. That way I could fill the barrels with the hose, heat and treat the water then just pump it into the tank.
