Anyone else find africans boreing compared to Central/SA Cichlids?

I've kept african cichlids from Lake Tanganyika and Malawi. I found that they were not as own responsive as I desired. Anytime I came to look at the tank they would just gather at the place I normally fed them. I currently keep SA/CA cichlids and find that they are more owner responsive, they tend to do more to keep my attention.

my preference is now SA/CA. If I had room for both I would still keep africans along with SA/CA.

I find them boring-I really want to like them I mean all the colors and you can really overstock them-but I just can't really get into keeping African Cichlids-kind of like when you meet someone that is attractive and smart but for some reason you just want to stay friends and not let it go any further.
