I'm not sure exactly why but I am very impatient. I hate growing fish out. It may have to do with the fact that I own several real big tanks and feel they just look empty with some small grown outs in them. I've grown out angels and a flowerhorn that's about it was just wondering if anyone else deals with this

There are parts about it that I like and dislike. Just like you, I'm also impatient and want the fish in my tank to already be grown out, as they tend to be more colorful that way. Along with that I can't buy smaller fish anymore now that my fish are large enough to bully and/or kill them. The only thing I dislike about buying fish at larger sizes is the price difference.

I'm impatient but I love growing my fish out. I like putting the time and effort in and watching them develop. Idk it just gives me a feeling of accomplishment when I have a great looking adult and I know the effort that I put into it to get it there. I'm the opposite, I hate buying adult fish.

I can relate to this.....the main advantage to buying younger fish is the usually more attractive price.

And also I feel like you can influence their development more, at least when it comes to cichlids. One of the cichla guys used to say "you can polish a turd, but you can also ruin a diamond".

.I do recall someone on here saying that from time to time.

I like both sides of the equation. If you buy an adult they will spaawn sooner and you get that enjoyment. Then you can grow out the fry and see all the changing they do a beuatiful double edged sword.

I should be clear and say that I used to enjoy growing them out but at this point I just want to sit back and enjoy a nice group of nice sized fish....Some small fry always seems to catch my eye though.
