What!!! Total Blasphemy! lol

These tanks aren't for the ideal fish IMO. I would never put a cichlid in a bow or hex tank unless were talking about Rams or the sorts. I have a 35 hex and it will have some Angels since their taller than longer and a small pleco.

they make tall tanks because they look nice to some people.

I like taller tanks. don't really like the look of the more 'elongated' tanks.

I realize that surface area is more important than height to most fish, but the proportions of the tank need to be appealing to me too. a nice viewing area is important too.

To me it depends on the size and stocking. I think hex tanks over 100 gallons look stupid, but for a 90 gallon hex w/ African cichlids or Angels could look very nice. I completely disagree with hating any corner tanks though, they are great for saving space. Rather than having ,for example, a 75 gallon standard tank that takes up an entire wall or a large portion of it, you could have it just fit into a corner of the room, out of the way. To me, corner tanks are a lot more practical, spacewise.

this just...i dont get it.

hmm I was thinking maybe a tall tank for like puffers or something. More saltwater though.....Or some sort of fish that likes to swim up and down along the glass instead of back and fourth. Yeah I had an octogon tank and I hated it. You could never actually see the fish unless they were dead center of the tank

Well personally I am not fond of "tall" tanks, corner tanks, or hexagon tanks for that matter. The purpose is pretty simple... some people like them. I dont really have a problem with what people spend their money on as long as the fish are treated properly. Sure as a general rule those shaped tanks have to be stocked lighter than your average rectangle, but as long as stocked properly then "to each his own".

One of the most beautiful tanks I have seen was a 75g that was 30" tall. Dimensions were 48x12x30. The person had a fully planted tank with 4 discus in it and it was just an amazing tank that would not have looked nearly as nice with a normal height.
