well i guess its just based on your opinion.i think tall tanks look akward as hell.

but I think it depends on what you call 'tall'

the pic you posted, for example, is more what I would call almost a 'column' tank.

that I agree, I hate.

but certain larger sizes that are taller, I really like. for example:

65g 36x18x24 tall
90g 48x18x24 tall
150g 48x24x30 tall
150g long-72x18x28 tall.

these are what most people would consider 'tall'

but not to the extreme of what you posted in your pic, for example.

take the 150g long for example. it is 28" tall, but because it is 6 feet long, it doesn't really seem 'tall'..

I think tall tanks are much more attractive than short tanks - why do you think public aquariums generally build such tall tanks?

As far as hex tanks - they have their place. I have a 65 gallon hex next to my bed in the corner. If it were a short wide rectangular tank it would be around 30 gallons. I have a 15 hex in my son's room on his dresser as well, I think it looks way better than a 15 long. Sure it can't hold as many fish, but that isn't what little tanks are good at anyways.

I guess when it boils right down to it I like fish tanks in general. I have tall tanks, short tanks, big tanks, and little tanks. If it holds water and fish and you can see into it, I'll call it good! :headbang2

At the risk of sounding sexist it seems that the hexagon, corner and other shaped tanks seem to be more attractive to female aquarium customers than to males...at least thats how it was at the shop where I worked.

ok so if the 65 hex cant hold that many fish and niether can the 30g...then why pay more for the bigger tank..even if u got it for cheap the cost of upkeeping more water is going to be greater.if im going to pay more for a bigger tank its going to be able to house bigger or more fish

tall/corner tanks have their place. not so much in monsterfishkeeping, but plants/coral/ittybittycommunityfish/seahorses/arboreal reptiles go great in them.
and they do look nice. why not get one or two for bottom dollar to fill out a corner and grow out some monsters. or as a quarantine/hospital tank.

I see these kinds of tanks all the time in flea markets and yard sales.I'm not a big fan of them so these are the only places I would buy one from.I would use one for a nano type set up.

My first tank was a hex tank.. and I love corner tanks, would be a sweet turtle tank set-up.. & I have nothing against tall tanks either. Like Dan Feller said, if it holds water, and looks nice, that's good enough for me.

but does anyone agree with me that with tall tanks and hex tanks, your paying for more gallons, but your able to hold just as many fish as a smaller, less expensive rec tank?

I agree kinda but I would only pay rock bottom prices for those sorts of tanks. In this city,I would never have to go and purchase one brand new,if I ever wanted one.

this just...i dont get it.
Maybe they were planning to make it a two story tank?

Corner tanks are useful for saving space though.
