yes i have heard this,.... and also growing marigolds next to other plants.. bugs hate the smell:D

That's funny cause I have marigolds in pots up front and they were getting eaten too. I think it's ants doing all the damage. We have ants everywhere! I'll have to try the basal though...

I've got several Adenium (Aka Desert Rose), both species and hybrids. Haven't got any pics of them in flower though, will take some this spring.

The first plant is Pachypodium rosulatum gracilius, the second is Dioscorea elepahtipes, they can grow up to a metre in diameter! I used to work at a specialist nursery growing these sorts of things, there's a pic on their website of me next to a massive one that has been growing in an indoor ground bed for years.

That's so cool. I really like unusual plants. I asked about the desert roses because I think they are so beautiful. I've wanted one forever but the ones I find at the store ususally don't look very healthy and none of the nurserys I've been to have had any.

Some "old" hobby. I used to plant veggie when I was kid, back in home country. Now, I'm into decorate plants, due to lack of space, and expensive water :D
