I don’t have fish that I never see, but I have a set up that many fish are unseen most of the time, rotate out to be seen some of the time, and all show up to be seen at feeding time. The set up provides heavy planting for fish to hide, and I love it as it makes my heavy stocked tank look deceptively uncrowded..
Here are pic comparison at and off feeding time.

Agreed. Who needs "hiders". Especially enjoy when pleco comes out and glides thru the tank. Sort of surprises me and the community.I've had my fair share of no-show fish. That tends to get boring for me quickly. I prefer a fish with good personality who will be active, greet me, beg for food, etc. Not to say that I haven't had some more shy fish which I enjoyed. But unless they are really special, if they want to stay out of sight 24/7, and it's not because of my setup/something I've done... they probably be moved on.
Honestly the khuli loaches are always out if you have 6 or more. Zooming everywhere
I knew going into my tanks that I was going to keep mostly catfish, so I set up my tank so the caves would be easily visible so I can always see them. All of my cats will sometimes come out during the day and all of them come out during feeding an throughout the night though.
