Hi! New here, just registered not long ago. Anyone else own or know anything cool about Juruparis? (satanoperca leucostica) Mine is about seven inches, male, I think.

Hi and welcome to the site.We actually have three around that size and we love them. They are really cool mouth breeders and great parents.

I have 5, two at 5-6", and three 1" babies. That looks like a male, but you can sex better with two of them. My larger ones are a male and female. The male is now tiger striped along his whole body and has metallic dots on his whole body. The female only has dots on her head. They are awesome. Try using sand as a substrate, they love it!!!

That's a freshwater Jurupari. They're amazon fish, from what I understand. I use the smallest gravel size, he uses his lower jaw like a shovel and dumps gravel out his gills to feed on detritus. I think sand might be to hard to vacuum. He's in a community tank, so I vacuum a lot.

10-12" is what is commonly stated. I've seen a few pretty big about10". Just picked up on about 2" a few weeks ago. Suprisingly it is aggressive and picking on one of my lil sevs. Its funny because I've never seen one this mean.

Mine stays placid, too. Mine was best friends with my firemouth, till the firemouth died, man that fish hated everybody but that jurupari. Now mine is friends with my severum. Got to be the friendliest cichlid I've ever seen. I hope he gets a foot long!
