Thanks everyone. I'm not too concerned about them breeding asap. Just wanted to know what the habits were for amphs when breeding. I just did a 25% wc as I did a 25% wc b4 I got the male. I don't see any real aggression that worries me right now but the divider is ready if needed.

My Lyonsi as well as other Amphs that I have kept in the past exhibit the same behavior when breeding. There's lip locking, gill flaring, and tail slapping. There's also a change in the pairs coloration and barring. The parents will move substrate and other objects as they clear a spawning site. After a few days the female will deposit her eggs and the male will fertilize them. That's pretty much what I have observed. It's actually something I'm witnessing this very moment. My pair is guarding a bunch of wrigglers.

Mine were quite aggressive before with him chasing her a lot, I've had a spawn on driftwood and one on a rock, you need to have her egg tube dropping down a few times before she'll lay. My male completely changed colour when he paired up!

I've bred Red Devils(midevils would be more accurate) and I am breeding Trimacs now. Never had any problem with them pairing up. I keep temps between 79-82. I would think that if he's not outright abusing her you're still okay. A little fin nipping is expected, but do take Woofys advice and put a divider in with a hole cut for the female so she can escape his attitude. Just give them some time and hopefully they'll do the deed.

He seems to always chase her to a pot then retreats. Kind of fun to watch her flare at him then she runs away

Divider is in but didnt cut a hole out so she could swim through. They just got in a pretty good scuffle and she got banged up pretty good but she kept going back for more.
