Anyone ever make a self propelled rotating spray bar?

I am consodering it on my 55 gallon garbage can bio filter.

The idea is instead of a drip plate I would use eggcrate on top of the bio media and above that (Just under the lid) would be a spray bar that rotates 360 degrees and sprays water all over the top of the bio media. Kind of like how a dish washer spray arm works.

I have a nice design idea on paper now but I was curious is this has been done before.

I will share my idea if it turns out as a possibility. I won't know until I get in front of the plumbing supplies and try a few things out first.

Yes exactally.. Angled outputs to spin the bar.

Thought about a common sprinkler head problem is ti would need to handle 2000GPH

I will put up a rough draft idea after I get it all down on paper so to speak.

Sprinkler head was my first thought as well.
just dont get a $3.00 Wallyworld cheapo, go to a gardenning place and get a good one.

You'd need a good amount of pressure to get that to work... good luck though!

We just had a discussion on these a month or so ago .

Mostly used on S/W systems, they have pretty much quit making these because of clogging problems. Pre-filtering is a necessity. And the slip joint would wear, causing the unit to intermittently stop if water pressure decreased.

I machined all the parts for mine at the time.

Theoretically yours should work if you can over come the frictional losses between the center ring and the bottom ring as the full pump pressure will be pushing the two together. Perhaps a styrene or teflon bushing might help.
