Hi
I have a raccoon I need to relocate and picking up a Hava-hart live catch trap today.

It swims in my ponds (no fish loss) but it poo's in them -digs holes all over and other raccoon type activities. Other raccoons come and go but this one hangs out in my yard at night.

When I let it out of trap will it attack? . Its a Hava-hart trap thus I need to open it by hand.

If its dangerous might just pick up my wife's niece after I catch it and have her let it out while I sit in the car.

I intend to relocate it 30 minutes away by Everglades as was told by state its legal to let it go there.

Thanks

As long as it doesn't have rabies it should run away from you when you open the door, lol.

Thanks. I am a bit nervous about it and in truth not sure if its a raccoon or opossum going by stools it leaves all over side of house and in ponds (which is why it has to go). I can't tell.

We went away for a week and the side of house was just loaded with nutty droppings. Cleaned it all up and same thing every night.

Probably a raccoon. Shoudl eb fine with the trap. Just keep your hands away, open, then flee!

Yup, I've relocated one before. It wasn't that fun, considering it was a male the size of a dog!!! And when I say dog I mean a good sized dog, not a Yorkie. He was not the happiest animal I've ever seen and tried to bite through the cage.

we have relocated many of them in the have a heart trap... the farm where we kept our horses had quite a few raccoons.. and many barn cats.. many times i would be strolling through the big barn to check on the horses and i would see all the cats eating in a circle from a big pan their regular cat food... you quessed it ... in with all those cats were a couple of raccoons..they never bothered the cats but they did poop and make nests in the hay in the hay loft... so we would set the traps with cat food as bait and they would always be in there the next morning.. then we put the trap in the tractor bucket and would relocate them out into the open apple field... they were so happy to go they would run away quickly as soon as the cage door opened..

We've trapped a total seven raccoons who were eating the outside cat's food. They are now serving as park rangers in a nearby national park. Each one was quite happy to leave the confines of the cage. Getting them out of the cage was not a problem.

They just love that cat food.:D

You should be ok. But still be really careful. You never know with wild animals how they will react and racoons can have a pretty wide mean streak.
