On that note, I have not arguments left. Well, except the limited access one I keep tossing out there lol.

Good luck, be safe. Glad you liked the metaphor :)

oh yeah, i forgot to reply to that question. sowwy :(
im just gonna cut the top piece, which is not hinged, into three seperate sections. one for the 16 to sit on and one on either side that can be lifted off for access.

the tank sits on a fireplace harth so i know its strong enough. the hood, i built, and a 2x4 sits along the entire rim of the tank so weight will be spread evenly. where the second smaller tank will sit, three 2x4s span the length of the hood to support the tank.
my phone is being a pos right now, if i get it workin ill post pics asap :)

IMHO what we have here is a clear example of "I asked a ? but really do not care about what answers I get because I am gonna do what I have in mind to do no matter what anyone says to me about the shortcomings of my idea ;)"

I have to really say one thing friend, if you ask for peoples advice and they give it, you should really listen to it. Thus far I have seen 100% united NO DO NOT DO IT!!!!!! answers.

That is something that very rarely happens in a forum thread.

Yet it is your tank go ahead and do whatever you see fit to do, just do not make a thread where you are in a panic because you are having a tank issue.

My answer is that it would be very unwise to do such a thing.

I'm no professional glass worker, but I've seen plenty of filtration setups where the tank supported around ten gallons of water. At Liem's in chinatown he's got tanks on tanks all over the place. Just eyeballing it, but I would be okay with covering part of the top of a 75 gallon+ tank with somewhere around ten gallons of water (evenly distributed and firmly supported) in a container or tank. But I wouldn't try more water than that. Again, just my own baseless parameters based on what I've seen done.

give me a 10gallon ill stand on it, all 250 of me.

Hope that you're at least 6'2"!

Or built like a Brick Outhouse!

@ OP, I guess if you feel comfortable with it go for it!

But PLEASE VIDEO THE WHOLE FILLING OF THE TANK EVENT!!!! PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:headbang2:ROFL:

last thing here...... You aid that you stood on the hood of the tank? Was it ON the Tank? YOu should try THAT FIRST!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you are good then you know that the 16gal will be fine. If you do go ahead and proceed with this idea, I wouldn't do it for very long and DEFINTELY Kepp and Eye on the front Panel of the tank. It may very well start to bow over a short time. Especially if you keep your temps up a bit more than normal...

Good luck and God's Speed!
