Hi,

as already told I'd use Wormex!

@Richard: A (as far as I am informed right) friend of you from UK is visiting me in only a few hours and I can give him the Wormex for you, if you want? You can hold it in your hands (and use it) on monday! But I have to know quick from you!!??

I am sure it is safe.

Sorry Mark, but I have to disagree partly.
Tremzol is only safe, when it's used correctly, severe complications are possible and already have happend in the past!
A massive increase of bacteria during the treatment and even after the at least 80% water excange have occured and killed all fish in the tank. While using Tremazol, you should at best sit in front of the tank to oversee the treatment ;) I also used Tremazol in the past and already have had this complications. I do not know, what would have happened, when I would not have reacted immediatly. I swapt to Wormex after it had been availble.

Using Wormex, these complications are unknown because of the lack of a pharmaceutical excipient! I think, Prazipro also does not contain this excipient and would also be suitable, but I am not sure, cause it's not reachable in europe! Mike, what do you know?

The second thing is, that you have to use Tremazol two or better three times to kill all stadiums of worms, which might have been not reachable eggs in one of the former treatments and before those worms can lay eggs themself again. Therefore, these two or three treatments have to be timed correct, regarding to the temperature and species addicted development to get a (in my eyes) satisfying result. Some experiance is needed therefore.....

Wormex can be left in the tank for at least 10 days. During this time, it stays always immediatly effective and kills all worms hatching.....also after 10 days, there is no real hurry to remove it out of the water.

I'd also advise Markt, to swap to Wormex in future!

Stefan

do you use salt at the early symptons ?
or would you wait ?

I would not use salt at this problem. I'd wait and use Wormex if necessary, it's working safe and as far as I can judge, also indulgent.

Hi,

with medicine it is always important to use correctly otherwise why bother with instructions. Also it is important that your initial circumstances are allright. I don't think the quaestion should be if Tremazol is safe. It should be: is it applied correctly and is the system the fish are in safe in the first place.

I have heard of Wormex already, it sounds good and the procedure seems alot easier. It saves waterchanges and repeating treatments are not needed. This makes it alot easier to work with.

If this available I see no reason why not to choose it over Tremazol.

Any known sideeffects with Wormex Stefan? How long has it been used for? Safe for pregnant rays and hormonal balance?

Hi Mark,

Wormex and Tremazol have the same active ingredient: Praziquantel

Praziqantel itself is difficult to solve in water.

As far as I know, the only difference between Wormex and Tremazol is the way it is solved.

Tremazol contains a (sugarbased?) solvent as a additional ingredient and is sold as a already solved steady mixture. But this additonal ingredient is very good food for some filter bacteria, what CAN cause a massive expolsion of them, which can lower the oxygen level dramatically and harm the fish in the tank (hope this explanation can be understood in my english, I could explain it better in german ;) )

Wormex does not contain such a additional ingredient and must be solved in easy volatile alcohol immedialty before use.

Wormex does (again as far as I know) not contain any ingredients, Tremazol does not also contain. So I cannot see any reason, why it should have any additional undesireable side-effects than tremazol on pregnant females. I have not used either tremazol nor wormex on pregnant rays, but I think a friend of mine has done so. No side-effects are known to me  Praziquantel itself shall already have an effect on the hormonal balance of fish, but I think, that's nothing more than a rumor.

Since about 20 or 25 years (mainly tape- and gillworms in discusfish), I used many different medicine with the active ingredient Praziquantel, in different ways, beginning with bruised "droncit", as "moneol", "tremazol" and as some medicine I meanwhile forgot their name, but in my opinion, Wormex is the best I got to know.

@Richard: OK!

Stefan
