Anyone have any incidents of there piranhas attacking them? do they attack humans?

They are shy of humans but it can and has happend. But they are not vicious towards humans; you'd have to play with it in a scaring way for it to launch a bite at you.

You sure about that bud? I saw a attack close up in person less than a year ago. And yes it was a nice decent bite that wouldn't stop bleeding.
 
I've always been curious how you guys who keep piranhas do tank maintenance. ...or even things like placing a heater, scooping up dirt etc..

piranhas are nowhere near as aggresive as the media has made them to be id be much more worried about placing my hand in a tank with an oscar than one with piranhas piranhas are naturaly very shy.... oscars less so
 
I've never had any bad experiences with my uncles and that includes putting my hand in the tank to fix his filter. But I have seen videos on youtube of people that have been bit and theres also stories of people who care for the fish while the owner is away and get bit not knowing. I think the worst I've ever heard of is a guy that kept 6 in a 180gal and went on vacation and his mom tried to clean the glass since she didnt like the algae and they took almost all the skin off of one of her fingers.
