Anyone interested in buying natives?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks for the post. I will definitely talk to the local DNR before anything takes place. I am not looking to make much money, only to share the awesome specimens I have available to me with my fellow MFK members. No one else.

At least a foot if not more. The ones that I catch fishing are 5lbs +

Usually local offices aren't aware of all the regulations. A call to the main office might get you more information if you can find the right person to speak with.

Something you might consider doing is volunteering to go out with some of the DNR fisheries biologist when they are doing stream surveys. While they aren't the ones who know what the policies are regarding selling fish, you will get some great references that could help open doors that might normally be closed. You will also get knowledge of and access to sites that would normally not be accessable. Also you get better at your fish ID skills.

Doing this helped get us a lot of contacts here in our state. We also provide collection data (locations, species & quantities found) to the DNR whenever we go out. Have found several populations of Elassoma that were previous not known to be in certain areas as well as a species of killifish not previous recorded in SC. Also have possibly found two new species of mudpuppies (Necturus) pending DNA testing.

This is something that anyone who wants to go collecting, keep natives or even just interested in the outdoors should consider doing, even if you're not planning on selling anything. Never know what you might find, get to see new places, and learn a bunch about your environment.

Thanks again for the info, KSI.

I'll let you know this spring. I don't want to make much money, just something to cover costs and a little for my time. Want to share these great fish with my friends at MFK.
