Anyone into kung fu movies??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
man, i don't know why i did it, but i just spoiled it for myself. i read all about Old Boy.

i wish i would've seen the movie without knowing. sounds really trippy. i gotta see this movie somehow

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH NOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Dude, I wish I had warned you...

I really enjoyed watching it without any expectations... But its defly worth watching anyway...

i know, i'm still kicking myself. don't know why i did that

it's cool though, i still wanna see it somehow

i looked for it on netflix but it's only available on dvd, no stream. maybe i'll rent it or something

not one of jet li's best film but still good. his character in this movie is one of my favorites that he's ever played that i've seen. this role was different from his other roles. in this movie, New Legend of Shaolin, his character is more serious and darker than his other roles.

I knew this movie looked familiar, I DO have it, but on my dvd it's called Legend of the Red Dragon. Pretty good movie, my favorite character was actually the kid, I thought he was really impresive, hopefully he really is walking in Jet Li's footsteps and we see him in the future. One thing I didn't care for though was the way they dubbed Jets voice, it was too stiff, parody like. I'm guessing it may be Jet's real voice, that may make it a little different. I liked hearing the real Jackie Chan on Legend of the Drunken Master.

My kungfu watching has slowed down a bit but I still get in a flick when I can. Right now I have The Magnificent Butcher on order. It's a movie about Butcher Wing, Wong Fei Hung's most famous deciple. Butcher Wing is who taught Lau Kar Leungs father, who of course taught all of the Lau family. I hope it is somewhat informative, if not oh well, I know the kungfu will be good. Here is a clip featuring two of my favorites, Lam Ching Ying and Yuen Biao. I really like the elbow knives. And no I don't know who the catman is.

Is it possible to get these older films without the cheesey sound-effects? I know its part of the "nostalgia" but I think I'd enjoy the fighting more without that distracting me...

Hey Sumo have you heard of a film called Brotherhood of the Wolf?..It stars Mark Dacascos and is not really a MA film though it does feature some MA fighting,I tried to look for it on net flix but every other title that sounds similar comes up instead.

I really like Brotherhood of the Wolf, I actually bought it cold in a Walmart movie-bin sale during college. Its a french movie, but still really good. An explorer returns to France from the "new world" with a native "slave" in tow (who inexplicably knows "martial arts") and is asked to investigate a series of killings by a legendary monster wolf.

You bought it cold, what's that?....I really enjoyed that film,I'm not much into buying a lot of DVD'S anymore, only a few here and there but Brotherhood is one that I would like to own......I don't think there is any getting around the sound effects of the older fight films. What you see and hear in those films was state of the art back when they were made so that's what they went with....Even the re releases of these older films that are claimed to be remastered and cleaned up for DVD still feature them. It's one reason why I wish someone would remake some of my Shaw Brothers favorites with modern sound and special effects..It'd have to done correctly though.

cold = not knowing anything about it... Yeah, I haven't purchased a movie in years, I picked up BoW back before netflix existed... lol

I figured I'm stuck with the sound effects, I just didn't know if anyone ever bothered to release them with the option for with out. I know it was hi-tec and all back then, but it still annoys me.

thanks for the background and video fatcat. the elbow knives were pretty dope. but he got his arse handed to him either way, lol. and about the jet li movie, that kid is sick. I don't know if he ever did more movies. i'll look him up. i recently watched the movie again on netflix. i hate what they did with the bad guy. kind of lame. not the fact that he became a poisonous monster, but the little go cart was dumb. and i didn't catch it the first time around, but in that movie, the fat kid (one of the ones with the tattoo on his back that they kept making fun of) in the movie he is Wong Kei Ying. Wong Kei Ying in real life is father of thre real Wong Fei Hung. btw, it's not unusual for martial arts movies that were made in china to have one title and will have different titles when release over here.

yea the sound affects can be kind of lame but i love everything about the old movies. i don't know how i'm ever going to see bow, but i'd like to

I know what you mean.Sometimes I do get tired of what sounds like the same three or four voices for eveyone in the movie, especially the silly, whiny sounding one lol.

I can see how the sound effects can be hard to get by if you're just now seeing them as an adult, I got into kungfu movies as a young kid, I loved playing kungfu and getting the sound effects right seemed to be half the game lol, Todays movies do have much better sound.
