Anyone into motorcycles?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have ridden a few used Harleys over the years that were for sale but I never bought one. One was an old iron Sportster with rigid struts. It was fun for about 5 minutes.

I always wanted a Harley Davidson until I became older. I almost bought an Electra Glide but it turned out to have a loose wrist pin and too expensive.

My next door neighbor has an 03 Road King and I rode it years ago. I never liked the clutch. You don't modulate the clutch on a Harley much, it's just in or out.

Which is good because the clutch action was very stiff compared to the hydraulics. I'll bet all the new Harleys have hydraulic clutches.

Once I get to Nomad repaired I'm going to start looking for an in town bike. Not a bar Hopper but more of a motard.

There's a gorgeous new Indian the same colors as my bike sitting in front of the BMW dealer. It appears to make the Nomad look lightweight. I rode a Vulcan 2000cc with a big car tire on the back once. That's a heavy bike.

It was like the Harley in that you don't have to modulate the clutch at all. Otherwise it had bottomless torque in a very short RPM range. The first time I came off of a corner hard on the throttle it did not want to lay over until I tossed it down hard. I was over about 45 degrees when I hit second gear but it never even chirped. Just kicked me down the road.

I think I want something that's a little less engaging to ride in town.

In the car behind!-)

I mounted that car tire for a buddy. Here's his VN2000 before.

This skinny bolt keeps it all together.
I got that Alfred E Newman look that comes from the struggle against the unknown. Will it fit?

The new one just barely fits.

It's a messy business mounting a tire by hand.

That musta handled **** lol....

Upgraded to a small “big” bike

Fun things come in small packages too -- I adhere to the philosophy that anything on 2 wheels is fun, I haven't owned a car in over 20 years lol.

But bikes in that class are all the rage now here in motocy-happy Thailand -- no self-respecting young Thai guy would be caught buying a typical step-thru scooter (like most others still use). Tons of mods/accessories available too -- replace that stock exhaust can with some after market pipes and besides looking even cooler you'll almost assuredly feel the benefit of an extra HP or two of zip.

AGreed we could probably all do with a few weeks on a 300, I bet they handle great and remind what bikings all about.

Ha ha, first thought that crossed my mind -- Ulu you weren't trying to kill your 'buddy' were you? ;)

He brought me the tire guys.

HD guys used to do this with the early Jaguar radials. Great mileage and stability, but no handling until you burn the corners off. This was an exercise where you put the front wheel up against a wall, and lean the bike while burning it over. It helped to have a sissy bar and someone to hold the bike up when it tried to get away.

Which it always did, because once the rubber gets hot it hooks up better quite quickly.
