Anyone keep largemouth bass?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
world record large mouth is just over 22 pounds, people catch 15-20 ponders everyday, so if you keep one expect it to hit well over 15 pounds, but it takes many of years for them to get this big. i actually watched a video the other day with a guy that hooked into a 25= pound large mouth, but when they went to net it, it broke the net and the line.

Has anyone kept largemouth bass for months/yrs?

my oldesnt one i had for 3+ years before i lost him

Interested in water temps-PH- any other input.

they are not picky about temperature or ph just keep it steady (i have kept lmb at 62* and i have kept them at 80*)

I am planning a 75 gallon for 1 very small large mouth bass will be natural set up with lots driftwood but leaning towards bare bottom just driftwood .
food will be crickets - roaches all raised in captivity

how small is very small? alsoe he might scratch himself up on driftwood darting around the place.
i dont think insects will make a good staple diet for lmb. i have never fed any of my lmb roaches and i wouldnt try it as when i fed them meal worms they would not digest the shell well. i feed mine on a staple of tilapia fillet and market shrimp, i also feed them live feeders, night crawlers, pellets etc

Thanks for the great info I opted not to do it now because the tank would be to small but considering it for backyard pond as think that would be more realistic however Florida temps are a concerned trying to figure out shade and how deep I would need to go to keep temps cooler

Thanks again

Iknew the peacocks got huge as have seen them in the area big healthy great peacocks but the large mouths I have caught were all tiny 3/4 inches tops thus thought they grew very slow and stayed fairly small

Thanks

Really??????? I would like to know where they are catching that size LM bass on a daily basis!!!!!!!:screwy: I do not see how you could even make such a claim seeing that you are from a state where only the Northern strain LM Bass can live and I dont think there has ever been a recorded case of a Northern that big. Lets see the link to the vid.

To help the thread out:

A florida strain Largemouth will grow on average 3lbs in 1 year while a Northern will grow only 1lb.
Also Peacock bass will out compete LM bass easily and different techniques are used to catch either fish. I am sure there are some hogs around there if you fish for them. The small ones you are catching came from big ones!
