Anyone keeping a marine lobster?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
They really don't do well in captivity. If you are really serious about it you will have to set up a chilled system. The grocery store set ups are more for wet storage. Product comes and goes fast. Keep in mind the Gulf of Maine temperature is in the 40's now.
In the wild they typically shed twice a year. Could probably speed that up in captivity.

What are temps during the summer?

In the heat of summer, low 60s.

I have two different reef lobsters in my saltwater system, one red and one purple. They are basically super colorful crayfish. They will max out at something like 4-8", so manageable. And they are fine at normal tropical temperatures. If you like the idea of a lobster, but want something more realistic, these are a great option. You do need to be careful about tankmates though.
