anyone keeping Dat with Aro?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
my NTT gets along with my much larger aros though he does sit in the corner and darts out during feeding only. no one cares about him anyway and he minds his own business

With regards to your fish's inffection, post a thread in the Dat section. You will get the best advice there.

for fungus you should have used primafix not melafix

the reason your thin bar looked so good in colour is i have found that melafix makes thin bars look great for a few days when added

you need to mix aros with small fish from young to tolerate them

most of the big real ST you see for sale are for sale for a reason mainly because they are fighting with aros

I am really really really interested in keeping either a ST (or Gars) with my Silver Arowana so I did a bit of research about this compatibility.

I am by no means an expert, so please correct me if I'm wrong:

1. Dats with Jardinis is a bad idea unless the Dat is large enough not to be bullied by the Jardini. (In most cases, it is just a bad idea)

2. Dats with Silver Aros (and Black Aros) are usually OK as long as both are of comparable size.

3. Dats with Asian are probably also OK. But, Asians are very very very expensive where I live (and Dats aren't exactly cheap) so I won't experiment with this combination.

This is just what I found out. I am really interested in knowing what the experts say about keeping one (or two) Dats with a Silver Arowana.

(I hope to add the Dats (and/or the Gars) to the 6x2x2 ft (180gal) tank with my Silver Arowana. I hope they will live happily for about 1.5 to 2 years after which I plan to move the Silver Aro (and the Gars, If I get them) to a well in my farmhouse a little bit away from the city.)

Regards,
Sid

I will say again that I have never had a problem keeping Datnoids of any type with Black or Silver Arowana.

People also need to stop using the term 'ST' in regards to Dats without realizing how untrue it make their posts sound. Any Datnoid is not an 'ST'. An 'ST' is the rarest Datnoid that is pretty much non-existant in the hobby at this time.

how big will your Dats be? I would suspect if you introduce a small Dat to a big arowana, the aro would treat it as food. If they co-exist when both at the same size the that might be ok.

That's my point as well.
