anyone kept a duck?

Never officially kept them as a pet, but a whole flock of ducks live around the pond at my mother's home. The neighbor actually bought a bunch for his pond, but they walked from his pond to my mom's pond to take up residence. This species does not quack, but makes an ugly hissing noise and almost barks.

I use to keep and breed Mallards. About 10 years ago I raised a baby that imprinted on me and it was one of the coolest pets I've ever had.

"Raise some meat ducks, get them as ducklings , grow them out , then butcher and eat. shorter term project than raising pets."

And tastier

If you want a duck that is going to be tame you really are going to have to start with an egg and hatch it yourself.

Yeah when I said over the summer I ment that time to raise it from a duckling. So for food seems like I can feed lettce mix with some mealworms and switch it up with blood worms with tomatoes a tasty salad. Do I really need a shelter for him though? I have some big trees in my yard where he could fly up and sleep? Am talking about when he is an adult. I would get 2 of them if I dont have to build a shelter. All i want is for them to hangaround in the backyard and not go wondering off. I do have other ducks in there area they dont get close the houses but there kinda close. Would this effect anything with my ducks? The other ducks dont even have a pond to go to....

ducklings were pretty fun pets. Had them years ago. Noisy and messy as hell, but followed me like a dog around the house. They were so cute...

im wanted to get ducks this summer also but i read you have to get them at least by 3`s or else they get lonely

I might just get them as a duckling. I'll get 2 but do you honestly think I need a shelter? Like I said I have trees pretty big ones. Would they still stay around the pond if i feed them everyday?

i bought 10 ducklings a couple years ago.. still have 7 of them. they eat grain, i buy scratch feed year round and laying mash in the spring and summer. i also feed them lettuce, and cut up squash, cucumbers, tomatoes and mellons.

i'm moving to AL soon and i think i'm going to have them butchered for wolf chow before we leave. and buy new ducklings when we get there.
